This simply isn't true though. It is possibly to get 10 wins with no monk and it has happened to me before several times. You're also assuming that the match that your team won due to the +35 health was against a bad team, so therefore logically we could say, since you won vs a bad team so marginally, a team with some decent players (well good for RA) will destroy you.

Whereas I was looking at it from a different angle. Playing with a highly offensive team that can easily wipe any other teams without a monk and then they end up playing vs a team with a good monk and manage to win marginally due to the 35 health.

in those situations the +1 weapon mastery can help you deal that little more damage to force a kill which otherwise the enemy team would have managed to save, and with you being the only serious offensive character a saved kill=a very likely loss.

Yes this can be said as well. I do agree with that. However it is FAR less common. All you have to do is compare that amount of times that you've had say 3 healers in your team to the amount of times that you've had no healers in your team. So logically it makes sense to run the more defensive option.

As for getting "locked into mantras", I feel this is a common misconception that people have of the higher end PvP'ers. The fact is they play what is most efficient at the time, they've had 3 years worth of testing different playstyles out, 3 years experiencing different situations and 3 years worth of trial/error/improvement, they know what the best options are.

I get the feeling that people think they do not try other bars and ideas out because they go against the norm and are not standard in the current metas. Again this is far from the truth. They do not run non-standard bars because they are simply not as efficient. It's not a matter of getting locked into their own mantras. Even recently we've seen evidence of this in the Warrior templates run in GvG. Before the buffs to Primal Rage and Warriors Endurance pretty much everyone ran Eviscerate/shock, not because that's what they were used to running and they didn't want to change but because it was the most efficient at the time. Now WE and PR are equally if not more efficient (depending on the situation) and so you see them in play A LOT more.

The same is true of major runes. The reason people do not run them is not because they are locked into their own mantras but simply because they are not worth the -35 health trade off. The 35 health is far more versatile and has far more positives than the +1 to x attribute. In rare cases the +1 does become more beneficial but this is a rare case.
